Wigton Infant School

Forest School

At Wigton Infant School we recognise the importance of being healthy and active. We have four members of staff qualified to Level 3 in forest school delivery and our regular Forest School sessions provide children with opportunities to develop a wide range of practical skills, as well as a range of social skills. We want the children at Wigton Infant School to be confident, creative and resilient learners who are proud of who they are and what they can achieve.

Forest school is a long term child centred learning process that takes place in a natural environment. We are very lucky to have extensive grounds with lots of learning spaces, as well as local woodlands nearby. The children are given lots of opportunities to learn about their surroundings through exploration, play and hands on learning, in a nurturing and non-judgemental environment. This provides a unique way of building confidence, self esteem and resilience all skills which the children are able to transfer to all aspects of life.

We believe that by teaching children the importance of looking after ourselves, our environment and others that we are giving the children valuable skills that they will continue to build on as they continue on their learning journey.
